FALL 2013 MENSWEAR TRENDS

   (Published on Hello Pakistan Blog)

Fall/Winter 2013 editions of Menswear fashion weeks just wrapped up in Milan and Paris. Here’s a roundup of some of the trends straight off the runway that were seen in profusion at the fashion capitals of Europe.

Accents of leather:

Edgy and coarse; leather’s always been men’s fabric of choice but this men’s love affair with leather often leads to overkill with tasteless and overuse of the fabric. Leather owing to its heaviness and tough nature suits best when used in moderation. One of the most oft seen trends on men’s runway was use of leather accents in outerwear. Men can go for varsity jacket with pleather sleeves, panels made of leather or even a leather pant if you are willing to go that far.

Burgundy is here to stay:

Burgundy, oxblood or wine – whatever you may like to call it – is quite set to continue its reign as the hottest colour in menswear in 2013.  Calvin Klein’s burgundy suits were a reminder of Ryan Gosling and Robert Pattinson’s much talked about red carpet looks last year who turned quite some heads in their all-burgundy avatars.

Pop of Colour:

Its official, colour is the new cool. Men who like to strictly keep their dressing to muted and dark colours of black, grey and navy might have to rethink their game. Apparently, all the designers have upon themselves to enforce colour on all those men who are too afraid to experiment and like to play it safe. Don’t dress up in mustard or olive green from head to toe but go for subtle use colour just to accessorize your look, a little incorporation of colour can take a look to places as seen on the runways.

 -Plaids and patterns:

Plaids, tartans, checks, ginghams, houndstooth; fall 2013 is all about patterns. For those people who don’t share a liking for prints and paisleys, patterns is the way to go. Options are much more varied and you can style it up in numerous ways. Patterns were all over the fall runways, Burberry Prorsum even had heart shaped emoticon printed scarves and coats.

Khaki and all things brown:

Gone are the days of blacks and navies, new age man experiments with his style and has fun while he’s at it. Khaki coloured hues have been quite popular among stylish men all across the world in recent years. Fall/Winter 2013 runway had plenty of it. Best bet is to go for a khaki trouser, an amazing alternative to same old blue denim jeans.
