There used to be a time when waistcoats were considered more of a middle-aged and older men attire but gone are those days thanks to a bunch of fashion-forward menswear brands who have managed to push the trend into younger lot. More and more fashion enthusiasts are sporting the waistcoat look now and looking better than ever.
With a burgeoning fashion industry, more and more local brands are opening shop across the country. However, reputed international brands have been reluctant to follow suit and their arrival hasn’t been as fast as one would expect. While some high street brands namely Mango, Nine West have opened outlets in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad, none of the the high-end European or American design houses are yet to arrive officially in Pakistan.
Well, that lull is about to be broken as Sefam brings Armani menswear to Pakistan. Just to refresh, Sefam is the same company that is behind national powerhouses such as Bareeze, Kayseria, Leisure Club, Urban Culture, Rang Ja, Minnie Minors, Bareeze Men and Chinyere to name a few. In short, they are running a complete fashion empire across the country and some of the local brands fall under their umbrella and now they are taking matters to next level by bringing in famed Italian design house to the country.
Bareeze Man was the surprise package of PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week and one of the best things to happen to menswear in Pakistan in recent years. The brand is sailing steadily and has made quite a few headways since it’s debut at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week in April this year. (Read more here)
It just showed a collection at Amsterdam Fashion Week. It was a slightly altered version of its PFDC Collection. While pieces were mostly the same, it was styled quite differently from Bareeze Man’s last showing. Crisp, clean and clothes for a man of style; it was a sharp collection. Minuscule colour details and styling touches brought life to collection. To sum it up: it was good, wearable fashion, just what one expects from Bareeze Man.
I skipped the Best Dressed of the Month feature last month because unfortunately there weren’t many looks worth writing about and it’s better to wait for good content than doing a half assed job.
But this was the month of Men’s Fashion Week in London, Pitti Uomo & Paris and there was a flurry of amazing looks that deserve a mention. Let’s have a look.
Being a menswear enthusiast, I am always on the look out for brands which make trendy, out of the box products. And unfortunately, there aren’t many in Pakistan at the moment. Men are shy to experiment and accordingly brands provide them with safe but boring options so it excites me immensely whenever I come across brands that defy above stated notion but instead make products that are stylish, unconventional and have a character of their own.
The Shoe Makers & Company, commonly known as TSM & Co., is one one such brands. In a market swamped with same old boring shoes with square toes and ugly fake LV logos all over them. TSM is a breath of fresh air. What really stood out for me were how on trend there shoes are with the international market, TSM makes the kind of shoes that you see on international runways and spot menswear style icons wearing them. If my point of view sounds like an endless eulogy then have a look at their designs and see for yourself.
I love the British fashion industry. They are creative, they take business seriously, they respect the established and nourish the newbies. Infact, no industry encourages and nourishes the young designer lot and infant brands as much as British fashion industry does specially British Fashion Council.
And their London Collections: Men initiative churn out one amazing collection after another every season and Spring/Summer 2015 season was no different. Shoes in particular were at there full glory. Last season, it was Louis Leeman who swept me off my feet with it’s vibrant shoes collection. This season has witnessed arrival of many more dedicated menswear shoe collections. Have a look and lust away.
I have been contemplating over featuring my personal looks on the blog for a while. On one hand, it felt a bit too self-involved while on the other hand the thought of putting myself out there always scared me a bit.
But my love for menswear fashion and style in infinite and when you are into something so deeply, it’s just the natural step to go all in. So here’ my first ‘Today I am Wearing’ post. There are a lot more to follow hopefully.
The look is very simple and casual. Something I wear quite often when ever I am going out for a movie or to a dinner with friends. Hope you like it.
