Lux Style Awards 2013: Style Supplement’s Best Dressed List

Left for a five day trip to north on the next day of Lux Style Awards where there was no cell coverage let alone Internet access so couldn’t cover LSAs on the blog. But I believe in a policy of ‘late better than never’ so here’s my two cents on 12th Lux Style Awards Red Carpet.
LSAs were held in Lahore this year so as expected, red carpet was full of glitz and glamour. Shehla Chatoor dominated the red carpet as most of the stars were spotted wearing her pieces. Élan, Sania Maskatiya and Deepal Perwani were some of the other designers spotted.
As for the celebrities, Mahira Khan was clearly best dressed of the night in a dress from Élan by Khadijah Shah’s latest collection. I was rooting for that dress to make it the red carpet and there was no one better than Mahira to pull it off.

Best Dressed:

Amina Sheikh and Ali Xeeshan were declared best dressed male and female on the red carpet by the jury.

If it were me, I wouldn’t have chosen her as best dressed but she does look great and I can get behind the idea but it is the best dressed male award that I cant wrap my head around.

Ali Xeeshan

He looks like a pirate who borrowed a suit from his cousin in Toba Tek Singh to attend LSAs. The fit is bad, shirt seems ruffled and pants need hemming. No idea who was on the jury that selected him as best dressed but I am pretty sure they have no idea how the fuck menswear works. (sorry for using profanity but I am quite flabbergasted)

StyleSupplement’s Best Dressed:

As for my personal favourites, let’s start with the men. I think there were tons of men who looked far better (and saner) than Ali Xeeshan but if I had to pick one I would choose model Waleed Khalid as the best dressed male on the red carpet.

I am not sure whom he’s wearing but it looks like HSY. Camel colour, narrow tie and that white peeking pocket square wins it for me. This look is so GQ appropriate which I consider a style bible.

Nubain Ali, Hamza Tarrar and Shehzad Noor (who won Best Fashion Model [Male]) would come second on my list. Kamiar Rokni looked good too.

As for the ladies, to me Mahirah Khan was hands down the best dressed female on the red carpet. Not only her Elan by Khadijah Shah dress was gorgeous but she pulled it off perfectly.

Feeha Jamshed in a canary yellow gown and Amna Illyas in black Shehla Chatoor dress would come second.

I really liked Humaima’s choice as well but it was a bit too obvious. Spectacular nonetheless.

Sania Maskatiya’s Uraan Collection 2012 Ad Campaign

Sania Maskatiya fever has taken Pakistan’s fashion business by quite a storm and in a span of no time she has strengthened her position as one of the most credible name in the business, all by fashion-forward yet commercially viable collections, savvy PR campaigns and clever advertising using social media to its full force.

Visuals of Sania’s Ad campaign of Uraan collection showed at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2012 have been making the rounds lately and the pictures are stunning. Shot in Morocco by Ayaz Anis and featuring the dusky beauty Amina Sheikh, it features some of the best looks from the ramp.

Beautiful Islamic architecture provides a perfect backdrop for the the digital prints and draped shirts. The prints and colours blend beautifully into the surrounding and final product makes a stunning visual delight.

Have a look at the stunning pictures from Tangier, Morocco:

Amina Sheikh at New York City International Film Festival

Model and actress Amina Sheikh adorned various looks during her Red Carpet appearances at the recently concluded New York City International Film Festival (NYCIFF)

Her movie Seedlings (Lamha) was screened at the festival and played the lead role opposite her husband Mohib Mirza and picked up an award for Best Actress in a Lead Role. Here’s what she wore over the course of the 8 day festival.

Kamiar Rokni

Dress is from an old collection of Kamiar Rokni and he has shown the dress at fashion weeks more than once. The applique on the dress is beautiful and olive green is a stunning colour to be worn on red carpet. Only flaw is that the dress is a bit too on the bridal wear side.

She made another appearance in Elan’ by Khadija Shah. This time she got is very right. The dress is from a recent collection, photographs very well and she carried it with elan’, pun intended. This is the same dress that Shehrbano Taseer wore to Lux Style Awards, 2012 and Khadija Shah herself has been spotted wearing.

And finally, she wore a one-shoulder snake-skin printed gown by Maheen Karim. I am not a big fan of dress with brooches or of animal print dresses for that matter but Amina pulls it off magnificently using her super model skills to full force.

Maheen Karim

Amina Sheikh is definitely one of the most well dressed people around, she knows her style well and pulls off any kind of looks tremendously.

Lux Style Awards 2012: Green Carpet, the Girls

All female celebrities from Mathira and Ayaan to Amina Sheikh wore some very unfortunate things to the Green Carpet, while the male celebrities shone more than ever, ladies took it upon themselves to give us fashion bloggers something to rant about.

All wasn’t bad however, while the celebrities were fashion faux pas, it was non-celebrities like editor Andleeb Rana Farhan, event manager Frieha Altaf who brought the glamour. It was journalists and editors who saved the day and as fashion journalist Aamna Haider Isani tweeted “Fashion journalists are still the best dressed people” and it stood correct more than ever.

Let’s have a look at what everyone wore:

Although there were more misses than hits but there were still some looks worthy of praise.

Asma Mumtaz:

Let’s start with one of the few better dressed people from that night.

Wearing a cream coloured HSY gown with bejeweled shoulders, Celebrity stylist Asma Mumtaz looked like a million bucks. Hair and makeup were done to perfection. HSY might not be an expert when it comes to Avant Garde and fashion forwardness but still nobody does old school, conventional glamour like him.

Andleeb Rana Farhan:

Xpoze’ Monthly’s Editor-in-Chief wore a Sadaf Malaterre liquid gold dress with exaggerated sleeves. Every inch of that dress exuded glamour and glitz and was a perfect dress for the evening. Heel-less strappy sandals are a welcome respite from the towering pumps one sees every girl wearing on the red carpet.

Mahira Khan:

Mahira was wearing a light teal full length dress by her best friend Feeha Jamshed, inclusion of heavy necklace wass a very nice touch. Mahira certainly knows her fashion and this whole ensemble might not be the head turner but it has that understated chicness to it that one knows Mahira for and associates with Feeha Jamshed’s brand.

Frieha Altaf:

LSA’s producer and Catwalk Production’s Frieha Altaf was a vision in a very well draped Maheen Karim dress. The dress is immaculately constructed and the texture is divine.

In a short dress by Sadaf Malaterre, Meera looked better than ever. Say what you may like about this girl but she always look amazing and her hair and makeup were spot on and she looked glamourous enough without heading into tackyville, wait till you see Mathira and you will know what I am talking about 😀

Mathira topped the worst dressed list, while her Ali Xeeshan dress was nothing short of disaster, her terrible hair and drag queen makeup made it worse. That dress has an interesting print but those tacky butterfly brooches and the shiny effect of print is ruining it. Dress is shapeless and her face is a whole another story.

Whats killing me the most is that Ali Xeeshan is such a talent with some amazing creations to his credit, why o why did they (or she) chose that hideousness?

Ayaan was the other major casualty of the day, wearing a Deepak Perwani purple mermaid tail gown, she was one sore sight. The dress did no justice to her magnificent  beauty. Hair and makeup were equally bad.

Amina Sheikh:

Amina Sheikh is one of the most beautiful women of this industry and has got an ethereal and seductive persona. She is usually very well dressed, infact her Fahad Hussayn gown at last year’s Lux Style Awards was one of the best of that event but her attire this year left us high and dry. Her gold Maheen Karim dress was all over the place bearing no shape or pattern, proportions were all wrong too. The blouse was interesting but rest of the dress just got too complex for its own good.

10th Lux Style Awards, 2011: Red Carpet

So after putting up a dismal and uneventful show for the last two years, LSAs finally returned with all its glitz and glamour. Glamour quotient at this year’s show was not as high as its previous outings but overall the celebs put up a good show strutting down the runway wearing luxurious designer couture worth thousands of rupees. Lets get down to business pronto and have a look at what everyone wore and how well they did on the style front!!

  Starting with host, Mahira Khan

Mahira Khan in Deepak Perwani

She didn’t do a very good job with hosting but she looked absolutely gorgeous in all her looks. Blue was the colour of the night with a lot of girls showing up in flowing blue silk gowns.

She looked equally ravishing in her other looks.

A lot of celebrities faltered when it came to makeup and styling but Mahira’s styling looked effortlessly glamorous and complimented her every outfit. Ayaan on the other hand was a demo of bad-styling, her makeup was grasping for attention and orange lips with the curly hair looked overdone.

A lot of celebrities including best-dressed of the night Amna Ilyas, Frieha Altaf and Aminah Shiekh wore Fahad Hussayn.

Amna Ilyas was declared best dressed female celebrity of the night. She did look flawless, very LSA appropriate glamorous still her gown seemed a bit too complicated for a red carpet appearence. In my opinion, Amina Sheikh was more deserving of the best dressed award.

It was more of a signature Fahad Hussayn dress than Amna Ilyas’s. The gown had a very Alexander McQueen avant garde aesthetic touch. Understated makeup and silver jewellery were the right choices with the dress.

Aminah Haq and Ammar Belal are unarguably the most stylish couple of Pakistan. They are red carpet regulars and their presence on red carpet always take things to a whole new level.

Aminah Haq and Ammar Belal, both in Ammar Belal

Aminah Haq wore a fawn coloured gown while Ammar Belal supported a retro tux from his latest ”Disco Inferno” PFDC Collection. Nude colour doesn’t look very well on people with lighter skin tones but Aminah Haq rocked that look with perfect accessories and makeup. This look could have been a serious contender for best dressed on red carpet had it been not so understated. But Ammar’s 70’s look was definitely one of my most favourite look from the night.

Worst look from the women’s side was Mathira’s

Animal print is the worst possible option for a red carpet affair like LSA’s. It is vulgar and tacky but then vulgar and tacky are Mathira’s signature style so we can’t argue on this one.

From the TV fraternity, two women that really impressed me were Sahira Kazmi and Savera Nadeem, both were wearing Sana Safinaz and looked stunning yet not too flashy.

Sahira Kazmi and Savera Nadeem both in Sana Safinaz

Bushra Ansari in Umar Saeed

Bushra Ansari has a lesson to learn from Sahira Kazmi. Sahira Kazmi looked glamorous without flashing any skin which would have looked very age inappropriate for someone of her age group. Bushra Ansari’s Umar Saeed ensemble was very beautiful but she needs to realize that her age of wearing sleeveless on red carpet is long gone. Its not an issue of modesty, its an issue of looking at your best and flashing your skin if you don’t have a perfect figure is not the way to go to get that.

Other notable mentions include Feeha Jamshed and Frieha Altaf:

Frieha Altaf in Fahad Hussayn and Feeha Jamshed

I am absolutely in love with Feeha Jamshed’s personal style, she always look uber glamorous and chic. Frieha Altaf was one of the many wearing Fahad Hussayn on that night. Black and Gold always make a very luxe combination and her golden accessories are doing absolutely the same here.

While most women turned up in standard gowns, some went the unconventional way wearing non contemporary colours and taking big fashion risks. Nabila being the style icon that she is went the high road and her risk surely paid off:

Most disappointing fare of the night for me was the best dressed male of the night, HSY. Journalist Hani Taha and Xpoze’ editor Andleeb Rana judged the red carpet. Hassan Shehrayar Yasin was declared best dressed male but his attire was a major disappointment. They were so many chic looking men that night, I fail to understand logic behind choosing   him as the best dressed of the night.

He doesn’t look bad, the problem is that he looks boring as hell. This suit is as standard as it could get, there is no wow factor. You can find uncles wearing more fashion forward suits at weddings than this. There were so many draper looking men on red carpet that night like Ayaz Anis Khan, Ammar Belal, Taimoor Damas, BNN Boys. Decision of choosing HSY over of all those is a decision beyond my comprehension.

But all in all, it was a decent affair, celebs have matured big time with their style senses, here’s hoping that next year’s event is bigger and better in magnitude.
