Fawad Khan for Republic Fall/Winter 2014

Fawad Khan is the flavour of the month. He’s been everywhere not that I am complaining. No one is enjoying fashion world’s infatuation with Fawad Khan as much as I am. (Exhibit¬†A)

So when recently images from Republic’s latest shoot featuring Fawad Khan came out, I couldn’t be more excited. Fawad Khan and Republic by Omar Farooq go quite a way back. (Exhibit¬†B) Omar signed Fawad on as Reublic’s brand ambassador somewhere around at the start of this year. They weren’t able to shoot anything since Fawad was busy in India with shooting and promotion of his Bollywood flick ‘Khoobsurat’.

They have finally come out with a spread shot by amazingly talented Abdullah Haris. This spread features pieces from Republic’s Woolmark Show collection.

Republic by Omar Farooq Spring/Summer 2014 Campaign

Republic Spring/Summer 2014 campaign is out and it’s all about summertime suiting staples.

The campaign is shot brilliantly by Abdullah Haris who has always done justice to Republic¬†campaigns catching the rugged, coarse undertones of Omer Farooq’s pieces brilliantly with his lens¬†and this campaign is no exception.

It features pieces from Omar Farooq’s latest offering i.e. Spring/Summer 2014 collection that he showed at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week two weeks ago.

While everything looks super sharp, my favourite pieces have to be the purple windowpane check suit, knitted ties and the lapel pins.

Feast on the brilliant images from the campaign and let me know what you think of it.

Best of PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week

Menswear was at its full glory at the recently concluded PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week and that is thanks to two brands, Bareeze Man and Republic by Omar Farooq. They set new benchmarks, presented fresh fashion and upped the style ante quite a few notches. Apart from the two, there were selective glimpses of menswear brilliance from other brands noticeably Sania Maskatiya and Arsalan Iqbal.

Here’s a look at some of the trends on the PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week runway that stood out. While there were many looks that I loved, there’s always a few trends that you can borrow from the runway and apply them to your everyday dressing.

Here is a list of what I absolutely loved at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week, 2014.

Eid kurtas for men – Spoiled for choices

Eid is definitely one of the most profitable season for the fashion industry. it is one season where every one goes out of their way to make new clothes regardless of their social status and buying power.

For men, kurta is the de facto dress code for eid day and such is the lure of the kurta market that even womenswear designers jump into the kurta game on eid, Nomi Ansari is one example.

Style Supplement takes a look at some of the best menswear kurtas out there in the market right now. While the market is filled with choices from high street brands to designer labels, there are few worth a mention. Let’s take a look.

One of the issue with Eid designer kurta parade is that designers put way too much emphasis on colour and embroidery. Eid might be a festive occasion but this is no excuse for looking like a box of mithai.

When it comes to kurtas, I personally prefer light colours and minimal additions. Khaadi and Junaid Jamshed are the best go to options when it comes to simple looking kurats, elegant and fuss free.

As I said simple and fuss free and price range is very competitive. Last one is my favourite, got this one for Eid for myself.

Another name that comes to mind when talking about simple, elegant kurta sans embroider and OTT colours is Fahad Hussayn.

As for those who prefer the colourful embroided kind, Nomi Ansari’s kurtas have stood out to be the best so far in my opinion.

Republic by Omar Farooq has also stepped into the kurta territory but honestly speaking his kurtas are simply gaudy and loud. he should stick to what he knows best i.e. western wear.

So options are plenty and it just comes down to what’s your personal style whether you prefer colourful and festive looking kurtas or you go for more subliminal options. Happy shopping!!

Republic Winter 2012/13 Ad campaign by Abdullah Haris

Omar Farooq is an artist as every fashion designer should be but onslaught of commercialization has smudged the art in fashion to some extent and most of Pakistani designers are still struggling to strike a balance. But Omar Farooq РCreative Director of Republic Рis one man who has held on to his creative guns and never let go of his peculiar touch.

¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† Republic’s Winter Ad campaign is a testimony to that.¬†Collaborating¬†with another artist par excellence – photographer Abdullah Haris – Fall/Winter 2012/13 Ad campaign is a visual delight.¬†Campaign¬†depicts a strong undercurrent of agony, anguish and distress thorughout the images. A lot of menswear designers from Munib Nawaz to Ismail Farid have tried their hands at this insurgent, rebellious meets revolutionary theme with their work but nobody has excelled in it like Omar Farooq.

Republic man is strong yet socially conscious and brutalities of world and injustices of the society bothers him and leaves him afflicted and tormented from inside.

Lux Style Awards 2012: Green Carpet, The Boys

¬† ¬† ¬†So, they rolled out a Green carpet instead of the usual Red at 11th Lux Style Awards. The concept was first improvised at IIFA and Lux followed the trend, we¬†don’t¬†care what colour a carpet is as far the celebrities walking on it are dressed to their nines.

Green Carpet was filled with some very unfortunate fashion choices and some celebrities (read Mathira) were a walking case of fashion faux pas. While the girls were not exactly dressed to impress, the boys at Lux Style Awards Green Carpet were looking sharper and suaver than ever before. Lets take a look:

Ali Zafar:

Wearing a Republic by Omar Farooq two-piece suit with a wide leather lapel, one-button blazer and black textured tie, fabric of his suit was very fine and spoke for itself. His black suit was a major win win and in such an event where majority of men do a black suit this is how you stand out among others while still wearing a black suit. It shows the tremendous upholding of quality and excellence that Omar Farooq has shown with his band Republic. Cant express how much I love the lapel and the fine fabric, way to go.

Umair Tabani:

¬† ¬† ¬†And here’s Umair Tabani, brother of designer Sania Maskatiya and business savvy manager behind her very successful and popular brand. Umair is wearing a tux by Republic and walked away with the Best Dressed Male prize, he looks very suave and debonair and his good looks helps too. We approve ūüėÄ

Kamiar Rokni:

¬† ¬† Republic boys were out in full force that night, here’s Kamiar Rokni who donned a suit by Republic with a houndstooth lapel and a knitted tie, a very popular international trend right now. The combination’s very smart and tie provides a much needed dose of colour to the overall understated look.

Ali Safina:

¬† ¬†Geo TV’s blue eyed boy and nominee in Best Actor category Ali Safina wore a suit by Arsalan and Yahseer and Giorgio Armani shoes. Geometric pattern on the blazer makes up a visually delighting sight but he is ruining the look with the very shiny tie and satin shirt, colour are all wrong too. Had he wore the same colours in a less shimmery fabric, it would have been perfect. Still credit for¬†at least¬†trying a local label instead of going for Zara or Ralph Lauren.

Tapu Javeri:

Ace photographer and always very well draped Tapu Javeri turned up in a black Balmain suit with a parrot green Christian Lacroix tie, talk about going French. As it is with black suits, they can very easily look monotonous and boring in an event like LSAs but pairing it up with such a jubilant looking tie made the difference here and he surely stood out from the rest of the crowd. Thumbs Up!

Omar Farooq:

¬† ¬† And here’s the man himself with his beautiful wife. Omar Farooq is wearing a magenta tux and proving who’s the boss to all the boy stars when it comes to dressing.

His wife is looking equally chic in a Muse dress.

At the end of the day, all I can say is Thank God for Republic, God knows how much our male stars needed a man like him. Republic won a very well deserved award for Best Designer (Male) and LSA Green Carpet was itself a testimony to that man’s brilliance.
